Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Hails the Terraskills Graduate Employability Skills (GES) Initiative
During the Grand Opening Ceremony of the maiden edition of the Graduate Employability Skills® (GES®) training that was held at Terraskills Head Office at No 14, Sunyani Street Wuse Zone 1, Abuja on Tuesday 13th September 2022, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate hailed the GES programme developed by Terraskills; he pledged his support to the programme noting that it was a unique initiative to promote the employability of young Nigerian graduates.
Present at the GES® Grand opening ceremony were:
- The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu;
- The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi;
- The Distinguished Senator Bulus K. Amos;
- Aminu A. Mohammed representing the Director General of ITF, Sir Joseph N. Ari (KSM, KSS) among other admirable guests.
The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate
It was an honour to have the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate declare open, the Maiden Edition of the Terraskills Graduate Employability Skills training; an initiative poised to equip 10,000 Nigerian Graduates with requisite 21st Century skills and Emotional Intelligence necessary and sufficient for 21st Century living, for self, business, community and the nation.
While giving his spectacular speech at the GES Grand opening ceremony, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu stressed the need for equipping graduates with requisite skills to make them employable and productive, as he attributed the low productivity and inefficiency in the public and private sectors to lack of requisite skills among workers.
He pledged his support to sponsor up to 50 graduates in the Terraskills GES training, and also share meaningful life lessons with shortlisted trainees of the GES Maiden Edition.
The Deputy Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate
The Deputy Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Distinguished Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi who is also the Founder of Terraskills explained that it took the company up to 3 years of research to create the auspicious GES solution. He stated that the initiative aims to improve Human Capital Development and company productivity, while reducing the population of graduates without jobs in Nigeria.
The Distinguished Senator Bulus K. Amos
The Distinguished Senator Bulus K. Amos stated that Nigeria has lots of Graduates that are not employable, not because they are not technically educated but because they lack the basic skills that employers are looking for; skills that drive workplace productivity and employee engagement. Addressing the Shortlisted GES trainees, he encouraged them to make good use of the Internship Opportunity that will be availed to them by Terraskills in the course of the GES training to demonstrate the skills they have learnt and secure their future.
The Director General of ITF
Representing the Director General of ITF, Mr. Aminu A. Mohammed congratulated the founder of Terraskills for his remarkable initiative to impact knowledge to youths, stating that the founder’s initiative is almost similar to what ITF is doing in equipping individuals with skills. He congratulated the shortlisted trainees and encouraged them to make good use of the opportunity presented to them.
The General Manager of Terraskills
The General Manager of Terraskills, Mr. Donald E. Ogbuwa, gave a remarkable welcome address at the event. He stated that until majority of our young people become actively engaged in meaningful employment and business ventures, the nation will continue to bleed. This is why the GES Programme is offering young people an opportunity to reclaim their lives, careers and future.
The Program Manager of Terraskills
The Program Manager of Terraskills, Mr. Ada Ada Innocent, described the auspicious GES learning journey. He addressed the issue of skills deficit and skills mismatch stating that hiring managers agree that most candidates interviewed do not have a basic idea about the job roles. He listed the positive impact the GES training will have on Nigerian Graduates in improving self-development, productivity and engagement, and the community at large.
The BDM of Terraskills
The Business Development Manager of Terraskills, Miss Falade Olaitan Idowu enlightened the participants of the event about Terraskills, sharing the core solutions offered by the organization for enterprise, individuals and family. She stated that over the past 14 years of operations, Terraskills has successfully trained over 4,000 Nigerians in both public and private sector of the Nigerian Economy, and the good news is that the Terraskills Tracer Studies shows that over 85% of the Terraskills Alumni are gainfully employed and doing very well in their careers.
The Shortlisted GES Trainees
At the event, some of the shortlisted trainees of the GES Maiden Edition shared their job search experience, the reasons why they applied to the GES training, their expectations and their appreciation for being selected.
The GES training is set to commence on 19th September, 2022 with a month Inhouse training at Terraskills, and a 1-month internship at reputable organizations. We are certain that GES training will go a long way in addressing the problems of unemployment in Nigeria.
The grand opening ceremony for the GES Maiden Edition was indeed a success! The event was covered by top TV/media agencies in Nigeria inclusive of TVC News, Vanguard, The Guardian, Nigerian Tribune, The Sun, Silverbird among others.
