Goals or Resolutions: What is Your Leverage?
What are goals?
Goals are the object of ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. It provides a direction to achieve the desired outcome. It involves intention setting, planning, preparing, and taking real action.
What is a resolution?
Resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something.
Whether you leverage goals or resolutions, it is crucial to know their differences and similarities.
Here are tips that will make you make resolutions and keep it
1. Pick One Thing
When you want to change your life or lifestyle, do not try to change the whole thing at once because it will not work. Instead, pick one area of your life to change, make it something concrete, so you know what change you want to make. If you are successful with the first, you can go ahead and make another change after that.
2. Plan Ahead
To ensure success, you need to research the change you are making and plan accordingly to have the resources available when you need them.
3. Anticipate Problems
There will be problems; hence make a list of what they will be. If you think about it, you will anticipate them; the time they occur, with specific people or the situations.
4. Pick a Start Date
If you want to make a change, pick a day when you know you will be well-rested, enthusiastic, and surrounded by positive people. If selecting a date does not work, wait until your whole mind and body are fully ready to take on the challenge.
5. Go for it
Write your commitments on a card that you can carry in your wallet, car, or by your bed for an extra dose of reinforcement.
6. Meet New People:
When we get stuck in a rut, we usually end up staying at home most of the time, missing out on opportunities for networking and having fun. Meeting new people can be beneficial to your mental well-being and help your career, so do not be afraid to get out of there and make some friends. Overcome your shyness, become knowledgeable, and get to meet new people.
7. Stop Procrastinating:
The biggest barrier that keeps most people from reaching their goals is the desire to relax and do something fun instead of working hard. Once you get used to procrastinating, it is difficult to snap yourself out of it. So, you’ll need to put in a lot of work to change this bad habit.
8. Become More Polite
Good manners have always been an important part of a civilized society. They make it easier to connect with others, avoid offending people, and ensure that others perceive you as a good and trustworthy person. So, know the etiquette, be prepared and deal with rude people in the right way and learn how to say NO.
We have established the difference and similarities between goals and resolutions; in my opinion, however, I would leverage both because they have different purposes. I resolve to become a better person this new year. However, this will be wishful thinking that will evaporate as soon as I finish writing. To ensure these works, I will list out traits that will make me a better person:
- I will like to communicate more efficiently.
- To become more self-confident and assertive.
- I will like to say NO more often.
- Become more emotionally intelligent.
- Establish a better relationship.
Now that I have identified these traits, the next thing is to draw out a plan to achieve these traits.
