How can Reading Equip You?
How can reading equip you?
Yuck!!! Reading!!! I have never enjoyed reading! I am too busy with other things! Some books can be very bulky! I have a short attention span! Reading is just too stressful for me! I can’t even concentrate! In summary, I hate books! – Is this you? Well, this used to be me before I came to realize how significantly reading can impact me.
There is a correlation between reading and success. The world most successful people tend to have one thing in common: They read! They devour books and have attributed reading to success.
“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader”
-Margaret Fuller.
Reading is power. You will come to enjoy it if you understand how much it can equip you and how to get the best out of it.
Five (5) Ways Reading can Equip you:
#1. Reading can Improve your Communication Skills
Communication is a daily act. The ability to communicate effectively is the most important of all life skills. Proper communication can help you explain complex information, prevent and solve problems, build meaningful relationships, influence others, achieve success, among many others.
Language is a method of communication, and reading can consequently hone your language. Through reading, you would learn to describe your feelings in beautiful manners as it can help you refine your diction by exposing you to new vocabularies and better writing.
Reading also helps us understand things from the perspective of others. When you read, you become exposed to new findings, ideas, and information. These can give you something to talk about, thus making you better at public speaking.
#2. Reading can Equip you with Knowledge
Knowledge is power. The more knowledge you possess, the better equipped you are to tackle any challenge you will ever face, and the greater your chances of success.
One of the most rewarding benefits of reading is that it expands our knowledge. The degree of learning that we can amass from reading is boundless. What knowledge is it you desire to acquire? There are countless books out there that can surge your exposure, improve your memory, and make you smarter.
Many great and successful people have shared their knowledge, experience, and success stories in writing. You could identify someone you admire, read their books, and discover better ways of doing things, making you better guided, and achieving success will become easy for you.
#3. Reading can Improve your Self-confidence
Self-confidence is very crucial, a lack of which can impede one’s performance and obstruct success. People who have greater self-confidence can express themselves better, are more valuable, and tend to be more successful.
One way we can boost our self-confidence is by reading. Confidence comes from the feeling of knowing. We can confidently say something, carry out tasks, and challenge others when we know and have trust in our knowledge. The more we read, the more we know, and this feeling of knowing sparks our self-confidence.
#4. Reading can Inspire your Creativity and Motivate You.
People who are more creative tend to be more productive and successful. Many of us are very creative but are yet to realize this because we have not been motivated.
Reading helps us develop a strong sense of imagination and can stimulate our thinking. Just by reading a line from a book, you can get inspiration of your own. Also, sometimes we feel we are incapable of doing somethings, however reading the works of others, learning from their experiences and success stories can change our beliefs and motivate us to accomplish those things we think are not achievable.
#5 Reading can be a Source of Pleasure
Another interesting thing about reading is that it can be a form of entertainment from which we can derive pleasure. Interesting books can bring a smile to your face, help you overcome boredom and depression, and give you satisfaction.
