Tips on How to Create a Personal Reading Plan
A reading plan is a basic outline that helps you to navigate a topic that you want to study. If, for example, you want to become emotionally intelligent, you would note down all the books you plan to read on this topic.
To create a reading plan that works; you must consider the following;
1. What you want to learn
This is the first and most important decision. What is your interest? Are you on a fact-finding mission? Are you in search of personal or career development? Or maybe you’d like to learn a new skill. The options are truly limitless. Therefore, to answer these questions, you must prioritize. Start with books that strengthen the areas of your life that are at the top of your priorities.
2. How much time you can devote to reading
Identifying how much time you can allot to your reading is crucial to developing a reading plan. This lets you set realistic targets.
3. Determine when you are going to read
After you determine how much time you can spend reading, pick a time of day to read. If you are new to reading and want to build a reading habit, start by selecting a time you are comfortable. I prefer reading at night; this is because I discovered that I wake up most nights and can’t go back to bed.
How to Set up a Reading Plan
1. Select the books you want to read
After identifying what you want to learn or the part you want to undertake, the next major step is selecting the books that will help you achieve your aim.
2. Determine when you will start your first book
Prioritizing your reading by selecting the order in which you’d like to read the books on your list is crucial to developing a good reading plan.
It is crucial you determine the number of pages you will read each time you pick up a book. If you’ve decided that you’ll read 10 pages per day, count the number of pages in the book that you’ve selected to read first; then divide the total number of pages by the number of pages you would want to read per day. This will give you the number of days required to complete your first book. Ensure to create a stopping point for each book on your reading plan.
Once you’ve successfully determined the schedule for the first book, you can move on to the next book on your reading list. Likewise, follow the same process to determine your reading schedule.

Reading at night is not my thing… If I try it, I will sleep off and end up drooling over the book.
