My Short Story
When I reflect on my choices back in school and how they affected my job search, I sigh in deep relief knowing it is now a story.
During my university days, my only focus was on graduating from the University. I couldn’t just wait to get done with school.
After graduation, my heart raced with excitement from the prospect of going to NYSC and what the meagre allowance (Allowee) would do for me.
I couldn’t look past these. Not because I was short-sighted or unambitious but my heart was troubled by the increasing unemployment rate.
Pondering on the prospect of joining the teeming young graduates populating the job market sent shivers down my spine.
My hopes of becoming gainfully employed immediately after NYSC gradually became wishes which faded away slowly.
I was “Jack of all trades, master of none.” I knew little of many things but not enough to make me standout.
After numerous unsuccessful job hunts, I ventured into business. My entrepreneurship journey was short-lived because I lacked the necessary skills needed for the journey.
After many years, I realized that the workplace is only ready for those who are ready for it. Armed with this knowledge, I decided to become employable by acquiring employability skills.
Acquiring these skills put me on the radar of employers. In the same vein, I believe it’s going to do the same for you.
This is my short story.
