If you love bread as much as I do, it is my pleasure to share with you how to make delicious bread at the comfort of your home.
Bread is one of the world’s oldest food. It is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, which provides our bodies with energy and aid in the regulation of glucose levels in the blood.
In Nigeria, bread is eaten in combination with other food such as beans, egg, akara, groundnut, pap, butter, moi moi and lots more. Bread does not only taste delicious, but the smell of it makes us happy.
Here is how to make bread from the comfort of your home:
Ingredients you will need:
- 2 cups of flour
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1 egg
- 50ml of melted margarine
- 60ml of lukewarm milk
- 120ml of lukewarm water
1: Sift flour into a dry and clean mixing bowl
2: Add sugar, baking powder, and salt, then mix
3: Dissolve yeast with 30ml of water from the 120ml of water
4: Break egg in a small mixing bowl and whisk
5: Mix half of the whisked egg with dissolved yeast and lukewarm milk
6: To the flour mixture in 2, add and mix sequentially; the egg mixture, then melted margarine, then water
7: Knead the dough thoroughly
8: Transfer the dough to a hard surface and continue the kneading process till the dough is very smooth non-sticky
9: Slice the dough into your desired size and shape to your desire
10: Grease the pan with margarine
11: Rub melted margarine on dough
12: Put dough in greased pan, and rub whisked egg over it in order to give your bread a nice brown crust.
13. Cover and leave for 45 minutes
14. The dough should be double in size after 45 minutes
15: Preheat oven for 5 minutes, then place dough in it to bake at medium heat.
Viola! Your bread is ready to be devoured!
If an oven is not available for you to bake with, you could use the local method of baking; where baking pan with dough is placed in pot filled with sand over fire.
