Eid el-Kabir falls annually on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah i.e. the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar. The date may differ between nations because the precise day is determined by moon sightings. In Nigeria this year, the celebration was marked on Saturday, 9th July, 2022.
The festival of Eid el-Kabir is noteworthy as it is founded in the biblical narratives of both Islam and Christianity about how Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), in obedience to God, was required to sacrifice his son before divine intervention. Thus, the true meaning and essence of this occasion is submission, obedience and love; virtues that are in short supply in our country today.
Eid-el-Kabir is therefore a season that calls for rededication to the cause of mankind, to appreciate the gift of life and to imbibe the virtues of tolerance, understanding and good neighbourliness.
During the feast of Eid Al Kabir, Muslims re-enact Ibrahim’s obedience by sacrificing a cow or ram. The family eats about a third of the meal a third goes to friends and relatives, and the remaining third is donated to the poor and needy.
The giving of charity in the form of money, food or clothes to the homeless or poor is another key tradition of Eid el Kabir.
Therefore, as we celebrate this special festival, we must reflect on and imbibe the essence of sacrifice and humility for the promotion of harmonious relationship in our country. We also need to take this opportunity to reach out to everyone in promoting love, peace and unity.
Happy Eid-el Kabir!

The problem of graduates’ employability remains a continuing policy priority for higher education policymakers in many economies. These concerns have been given renewed focus in the current climate of wider labour market uncertainty. Policymakers continue to emphasise the importance of ‘employability skills in order for graduates to be fully equipped in meeting the challenges of an increasingly flexible labour market.
Although there are many other factors, studies have shown that of all the factors militating against graduate employability, the dearth of employability skills stands tall. It is no longer news that the higher institutions have not been able to prepare the Nigerian graduate for the changing and demanding landscape of the workplace.
GES is an indigenous solution designed by the Terraskills Team which has over 17 years’ experience in Training and Lifelong Learning Systems.
2. Curriculum development and Method of delivery:

The International Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991; when it was first initiated by the OAU Organisation of African Unity. It honours those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976 on that day. It also raises awareness of the continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African children.
Hundreds of Young Students were shot in the Soweto Uprising.
In Soweto, South Africa, on June 16, 1976, about ten thousand black school children marched in a column more than half a mile long, protesting the poor quality of their education and demanding their right to be taught in their own language. Hundreds of young students were shot, the most famous of which being Hector Pietersen. More than a hundred people were killed in the protests of the following two weeks, and more than a thousand were injured.
On June 16 every year, governments, NGOs, international organisations and other stakeholders gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the full realization of the rights of children in Africa. For 2014, the theme chosen returns to the roots of the movement; A child-friendly, quality, free, and compulsory education for all children in Africa.

Democracy Day is a national public holiday in Nigeria. It marks the day the military handed over power to an elected civilian government in 1999, marking the beginning of the longest continuous civilian rule since Nigeria’s independence from colonial rule in 1960. It is a tradition that has been held annually, beginning in year 2000.
Until June 6 2018, it was held annually on May 29.
With the election of General Olusegun Obasanjo as President, May 29th 1999 was the second time in Nigeria’s history that an elected civilian administration was restored after the rule of a military junta. The first time this happened was on October 21st 1979.
On June 6, 2018, the President Buhari-led Federal Government of Nigeria declared June 12 to be the new Democracy Day.
Buhari gave his inaugural address for his second term on June 12, 2019. These were done to commemorate the democratic election of MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993, in what has been adjudged to be Nigeria’s freest and fairest elections. It was, however, wrongly cancelled by the Ibrahim Babangida Junta. MKO Abiola was later detained after he rightfully declared himself the president. Chief MKO Abiola died mysteriously after drinking tea during the negotiation of his release. He started coughing in the presence of Kofi Annan and later died in the hospital.
Thus, in June 2018, President Buhari announced that Democracy Day would move to June 12th from 2019. The view of the federal government is that the annulled general election of June 12th 1993 is a more fitting occasion for Democracy Day to represent than the events of May 1999.

While finding a new job might be difficult, adjusting to and sustaining the job can be more difficult in some instances.
Upon resuming his job role, Faruq was trained on how to handle different equipment and resources necessary to enhance his work, and he learnt very fast. However, soon he learnt that technical skills were not all he needed to succeed on the job; a lesson he learnt the hard way.
The Challenges
The first challenge he had was with meeting deadlines. As with many organizations, he was swamped with loads of assignment on daily basis that stressed the hell out of him. When faced with multiple tasks, he found it difficult to organize them, set goals and accomplish them within the stipulated time. He found it difficult to request help from his colleagues when he needed it or even approach his subordinates to allocate jobs to them because he was more comfortable working alone.
His inability to organise duties and operate efficiently concerned him and his supervisors, as his assignments were frequently completed and submitted when they were no longer needed. To make up for his tardiness, he began working late at night and even on weekends, to the point that he had little time for himself. As a result of the poor work-life balance, he became increasingly stressed and sickened by the job.
As with many job roles, beyond the technical aspects of his job, he had other social responsibilities including, working with other teams to complete projects, interfacing with clients among others; these were another source of problems for Faruq.
He struggled with critical thinking and communication
During brainstorming sessions at work, he found it difficult to think clearly and come up with creative ideas to solve problems; and when he did have new ideas, communicating it to the audience was another problem, as he struggled with public speaking. He was always nervous and worried that his ideas may be worthless hence he ends up keeping mute, not contributing anything, and looking stupid among other members of team. His inability to communicate effectively made the company exclude him from representing them on important occasions.
When he oversaw project execution, he had to lead teams. It was a nightmare for him since he found it impossible to properly assign and convey tasks to his team, encourage them, and even resolve team disputes.
Most of the time, his co-workers had to take on more work to compensate for his shortcomings. Soon, he lost the respect of his co-workers, and the job he once adored turned sour.
He received numerous penalties for his flaws, and the company eventually had to let him go because his deficiencies were generating major problems for the company.
The negative experience the company had with Sophia and Faruq; the two people recommended by Kobi damaged Kobi’s credibility at work, and future recommendations from him may no longer be trusted by the organisation.
Episode Lesson
Lesson 14: Soft skills, in addition to book knowledge and technical abilities, are required to keep any job.
Succeeding on a job goes beyond having technical or practical skills. It requires that one possesses desirable human qualities called soft skills. Soft skills are a combination of human skills that requires emotional intelligence. These skills include creativity and innovation, communication, problem solving, time management, decision making, teamwork, adaptability, among many others.
They help you understand how to groom yourself, how to speak to and treat people, how to discuss and solve problems in the best possible ways without misunderstanding and chaos, how to lead people, how to handle situations, the list is endless. If a person lacks crucial soft skills and possess nothing other than practical or book knowledge, then that person is considered unemployable, and if the person manages to secure a job, sustaining the job becomes a problem.
