What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is the utilization of the internet and digital technologies to promote products and services to potential consumers.

Firstly, before diving into any digital marketing efforts, businesses must first understand their target audience. By knowing a potential customer’s age, gender, location and interests, they will be able to tailor contents, messages and strategies to maximize audience engagement.

Once the target demographics has been known, they can begin by optimizing their own website using Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It’s simply the process of optimizing a website so that it ranks higher in the search engine results pages. The inclusion of keywords, meta-data; and snippets are all essential parts of SEO and must strictly be taken into consideration when creating web pages or content. Additionally, businesses should also consider website speed and page load time, as these can impact a website’s ranking.

Use of Social Media Platforms

Social media platforms are also very effective tools for businesses to promote their brand and reach potential customers. It is vital for every business to have a presence on major platforms such as Facebook; Twitter, and Instagram; and customize their content to cater to each platform’s audience. For example; businesses should use visuals; and keep their messages brief on Twitter; and Instagram, while longer-form content may be more suitable for Facebook’s longer-form post feature. Usage of hashtags that are relevant to the brand; or products and services to help widen the reach of posts are also important. In addition, businesses should consider using platforms such as Snapchat and TikTok to reach younger demographics.

Email marketing is another potent channel for businesses to reach their audience.  It involves using email to send out messages and newsletters to your target audience. These messages can include promotions and discounts, announcements of new products and services, and general information about your business.

If this is done in the right way; I guarantee it would help you build relationships with your customers; drive traffic to your website, and increase your sales. And as with any marketing strategy; it’s important to measure the success of your campaigns; so that you can adjust and improve your strategies as necessary.

Paid advertising, or Pay-Per-Click (PPC) is one of the most popular forms of digital marketing today. At its core, (PPC) advertising is an online marketing technique where businesses place ads on websites and search engines like Google and pay for them each time someone clicks on the ad. The goal of PPC is to get your ads in front of the right people who are more likely to be interested in your products and services.

When done correctly, PPC can be an incredibly effective tool for businesses of all sizes.

Finally, businesses should also consider investing resources into creating and implementing an effective content marketing strategy. Content marketing involves creating relatable and useful content that caters to the target audience and encourages them to take action. Content can be created in the form of blog posts, videos, and even quizzes or surveys. Once content has been created, businesses should then distribute it through various platforms such as their website, social media, and even through influencers and websites in their industry.

World Blood Donor Day, 2022

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated around the world on 14 June; to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products to save lives. The day is also an opportunity to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

Blood and blood products are essential resources for effective management of women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and also childbirth; children suffering from severe anemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, inherited disorders of hemoglobin and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures.

The need for blood is universal, but access to safe blood and safe blood products for all those who need it is not. Shortages of safe blood are particularly acute in many countries in the Western Pacific Region.

This year, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”, and aims to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives; and enhancing solidarity within communities.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

  1. Thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation
  2. Highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion
  3. Recognize as well as promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion
  4. Raise awareness of the need for government investment to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary no-remunerated blood donors.

A particular activity that countries in the world are encouraged to implement for this year’s campaign is to disseminate to various media outlets stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never give n blood to begin doing so.

Stress is part of being human, and you may find it has a cumulative effect, with each stressor building on top of one another. Stress can also help motivate you to get things done.

Reasons for Stress

When we “feel stressed” our brains and bodies trigger a series of adaptations to deal with threat. We are preparing to react to danger by fighting, running, or hiding. This biological system is higher effective for coping with certain threats, such as tiger stalking you in the jungle. You don’t negotiate with tigers. You don’t innovate. If you want to survive, you will like heck, or hope you have got a big sharp stick handy.

1. Listen to Music

If you are feeling overwhelmed by a stressful situation, try taking a break and listening to relaxing music. Playing calm music has a positive effect on the brain and body, can lower blood pressure, and can reduce cortisol, a hormone linked to stress.

2. Talk it Out with a Friend

When you are feeling stressed, take a break to call a friend and talk about your problems. Good relationships with friends and loved ones are important to any healthy lifestyle; especially when you are under a lot of stress. A reassuring voice, even for a minute, can put everything in perspective.

3. Eat Right

Stress levels and a proper diet are closely related. When we are overwhelmed, we often forgot to eat well and resort to using sugary, and fatty snack foods. Try to avoid sugary snacks and plan ahead. Fruits and vegetables are always good, and fish with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce the symptoms of stress. A tuna sandwich really is brain food.

4. Laugh it Off

Laughter releases endorphins that improve mood and decrease levels of the stress-causing hormones cortisol and adrenaline. Laughing tricks your nervous system into making you happy.

Understanding Hemophilia

Hemophilia is usually an inherited bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding as well as bleeding following injuries or surgery. Blood contains many proteins called clotting factors that can help to stop bleeding. People with hemophilia have low levels of either factor VIII (8) or factor IX (9). The severity of haemophilia that a person has is determined by the amount of factor in the blood. The lower the amount of the factor, the more likely is that bleeding will occur which can lead to serious health problems.

Causes of Hemophilia

Hemophilia is caused by a mutation or change, in one of the genes, that provides instructions for making the clotting factor proteins needed to form a blood clot. This change or mutation can prevent the clotting protein from working properly or to be missing altogether. These genes are located on the X chromosomes (XX). Males inherit the X chromosome from their mothers and the Y chromosomes from their fathers. Females inherit one X chromosome from each parent.

Hemophilia can result in:

Bleeding within joints that can lead to chronic joint disease and pain.

Bleeding in the head and sometimes in the brain which can cause long term problems, such as seizures and paralysis

Death can occur if the bleeding cannot be stopped or if it occurs in a vital organ such as the brain.

Common signs of hemophilia include:

  • Bleeding into the joints. This can cause swelling and pain or tightness in the joints; it often affects the knees, elbows, and ankles
  • Secondly, bleeding into the skin (which is bruising) or muscle and soft tissue causing a build-up of blood in the area called a hematoma.
  • Bleeding of the mouth and gums, and bleeding that is hard to stop after losing a tooth.
  • After circumcision (surgery performed on male babies to remove the hood of skin, called the foreskin, covering the head of the penis) can also cause bleeding.
  • Bleeding after having shots, such as vaccinations.
  • Another is bleeding in the head of an infant after a difficult delivery.
  • Blood in the urine or stool.
  • Frequent and hard-to-stop nosebleeds.

World Schizophrenia Day is a day marked in a bid to spread awareness and also explores what it means to live with this much misunderstood and often stigmatized mental health condition. It’s an opportunity to learn more about the illness and challenge the stigma around mental ill health.

Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness affecting more than 21 million people worldwide according to the World Health Organization. The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about this illness, eradicate the myths and superstitions around mental illnesses in general.

A common myth surrounding schizophrenia is that people suffering from it have a split personality. However, this is completely untrue. Schizophrenia patients have just one personality, just like everyone else. Common symptoms of schizophrenia include confused thinking, delusions and hallucinations which is the ability to feel, hear or see something which does not exist. Some schizophrenia patients recover completely and find improvement while some suffer from it for a long period. According to World Health Organization, a range of effective care options exist for people with schizophrenia and at least one in three people with the condition will be able to recover fully.

Causes of schizophrenia

Research have not been able to find the exact causes of this illness. However, research now tells us that the disorder is linked to abnormalities in the structure of the brain.

There are also some factors that are believed to put a person at a greater risk of developing schizophrenia like:

Genetic factors: Having a parent or sibling with schizophrenia puts the person at increased risk.

A chemical imbalance in the brain

Problems during pregnancy: A child may develop schizophrenia if the mother does not receive proper nutrition, or is exposed to viral illnesses during pregnancy.

Extreme stress and overuse of drugs and alcohol can worsen any existing symptoms of schizophrenia.

  • Integrate culture into the frameworks of sustainable development.

These four goals were established during the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Besides achieving these goals, embracing other cultures helps us to lead more fulfilling lives. This fulfilment happens intellectually, spiritually, and morally. When we focus on embracing other cultures, we help improve many sectors of our lives. These sectors include education, science, health, and the environment.
