Abusive relationship is a pattern of rude and coercive behaviors used to maintain power and control over a former or current intimate partner. 1. Controlling and possessive behavior

They check on you all the time to see where you are, what you are doing and who you are with. They try to control where you go and who you see, and get angry if you don’t do what they say.

2. Being unreasonably jealous

They accuse you of being unfaithful or of flirting and will always want to isolate you from family and friends by behaving rudely to them.

3. Public embarrassments

They humiliate you either publicly or privately by attacking your intelligence, looks, mental health or capabilities as well as constantly comparing you unfavorably to others. Hence, they blame you for all the problems in the relationship, and for their violent outbursts. They also say things like, “No one else will want you”.

4. Threats

They yell or sulk, and deliberately break things that you value. They threaten to use violence against you, your family or a pet.

5. Physical and sexual violence

They push, shove, hit or grab you. They force or trick you into having sex or doing things you don’t want to do. Hence, they harm you, your pets or your family members.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that makes it difficult to fall or stay asleep at night. This common sleep issue can also cause you to wake up too early and be unable to return to sleep, as well as make you feel as if the sleep you did get was not refreshing or restorative.

Insomnia can strike at any time during pregnancy. Weight gain-related insomnia is more common later in a pregnancy, “whereas anxiety-related symptoms are more common earlier in the pregnancy.”

Because so many changes have occurred in the body by the third trimester, many women find it difficult to sleep during this time. “Anatomically, women have a fairly large baby in them by the third trimester. The aches and pains that occur during the third trimester may make it difficult for some women to sleep well.

Causes

Insomnia can be a normal reaction to things that change in the body. During pregnancy, a woman’s whole-body changes, and a lot of those changes are things that can lead to sleep disruption.

Many factors can contribute to sleep deprivation during pregnancy, including:

1. Changed sleeping position

Growing another human causes many structural changes in the body, which may mean that your normal sleeping positions are no longer comfortable. For example, if you prefer to sleep on your stomach, you may be unable to do so as your pregnancy progresses. This can interfere with your sleep and make it difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position.

2. Anxiety

For many women, pregnancy can be a stressful time, and being anxious can lead to sleepless nights.

3. Back pain

According to research, 50 to 70 percent of pregnant women experience back pain, which is frequently a cause of pregnancy insomnia. Overweight women and those who have had back pain during a previous pregnancy are more likely to develop back pain.

Treatment

Managing insomnia during pregnancy is similar to coping with insomnia at any other time of life, and as such, there are some simple strategies and home remedies for pregnancy insomnia that may be beneficial. Maintaining good sleep hygiene is an important component of dealing with this condition.

Here are some smart sleep tactics:

1. Keep a consistent bedtime and waking time

2. Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet.

3. Take short daytime naps.

4. Use your bed only for sleeping.

5. Avoid large meals before bedtime.

6. Limit your intake of caffeine

7. Unwind before bedtime by using relaxation techniques such as meditation or soaking in a warm bath.

8.Limit or eliminate use of screens and blue-light LED devices such as smart phones and tablets for an hour or two before bed

9.Exercise regularly and earlier during the day

Officially the idea of World Water Day was a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly conference; on Environmental and Development in Rio De Janeiro in 1992. It was then that the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution stating that every year; March 22 will be marked as World Water Day starting 1993. And since 1993, this day has continued as an annual event to increase community awareness;about understanding the importance of water conservation.

As water is an essential building block of existence, each year March 22 is celebrated as World Water Day to raise public awareness about the significance of fresh water and sustainable management of this significant resource.

Theme

‘Groundwater: Making The Invisible Visible’ is the theme of World Water Day 2022, proposed by International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (IGRAC). It was presented at the opening session of the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar, Senegal on 21st March 2022.

Significance

Water is crucial for drinking, business, farming and also for more; but almost 1 billion people do not have access to clean water.

Approximately 99% of all liquid freshwater on earth, groundwater provides societies with a huge number of benefits and opportunities. But experts say due to anthropogenic hazards major water depletion and pollution are now affecting the life and livelihood of billions of people.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural; political, and also socioeconomic achievements of women. It is also a crucial point in the women’s rights movement; bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, violence and abuse against women.

Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement that had begun in New Zealand; IWD originated from labor movements in North America and Europe during the early 20th century.

World Cancer Day 2022: Close the Care Gap

World Cancer Day, is an international day marked on February 4 to increase global awareness of cancer. It’s originated in 2000 at the first World Summit Against Cancer, which was held in Paris. At this meeting, leaders of government agencies; and cancer organizations from around the world signed the Charter of Paris Against Cancer; a document containing 10 articles that outlined a cooperative global commitment to improving the quality of life of cancer patients; and to the continued investment in and advancement of cancer research, prevention, and treatment.

Cancer awareness has become exceedingly important in the 21st century. While there have been numerous advancements in the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer, factors that should contribute to the decline of the disease; the number of new cancer cases diagnosed each year has globally continued to increase. There were 8.1 million new cases diagnosed in 1990, 10 million in 2000, 12.4 million in 2021. The number of annual deaths worldwide from cancer has also increased from 5.2 million people in 1990 to 8.2 million people in 2012 to an estimated 9.6 million in 2018.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), if the incidence of cancer continues to grow at the reported rate, the number of deaths worldwide from cancer will increase to more than 16.3 million by 2040. However, also according to WHO, as many as 40 percent of deaths from cancer are preventable. As a result, raising awareness of cancer and health organizations around the world, has come to represent an annual reaffirmation of the importance of this goal.

The International Union Against Cancer (UICC)

The International Union Against Cancer (UICC); an organization dedicated to increasing global cancer awareness; coordinates World Cancer Day and is supported in this effort by WHO and other international organizations. These Day serves as a formal launching point for the declaration of new themes; and the release of new publications for the UICC’s World Cancer Campaign; which functions throughout the year and strives to raise cancer awareness; by forming partnerships with health and cancer institutions and by proposing educational activities and creating public service announcements.

Because more than 70 percent of deaths from cancer occur in economically less-developed countries, World Cancer Day and the Campaign have become important mechanisms for drawing attention to cancer preventing and treatment in these countries. For example, in Nicaragua, where access to cancer treatment centers was severely limited, world Cancer Day 2007 marked the beginning of an international collaboration designed to improve cancer-care resources within the country.

World Leprosy Day 2022: United for Dignity

World Leprosy Day always takes place on the last Sunday of January. This date was chosen by French humanitarian, Raoul Follereau as a tribute to the life of Mahatma Gandhi, who did much work with persons affected by leprosy and died at the end of January in 1948.

Leprosy is a chronic, progressive bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. It primarily affects the nerves of the extremities, the skin, the lining of the nose, as well as the upper respiratory tract. Leprosy is also known as Hansen’s disease.

Leprosy produces skin ulcers, nerve damage, and muscle weakness. If it isn’t treated, it can cause severe disfigurement and significant disability. It is one of the oldest diseases in recorded history. The first known written reference to leprosy is around 600 B.C.

World Leprosy Day creates awareness that leprosy is in fact curable. This day is meant to help people living with the disease to understand that it is in fact a curable disease and to know that other people care about them. Though the disease has a cure, there are many people living with the disease. Leprosy holds the stigma that it is like HIV/AIDS which is why World Leprosy Day was developed to educate people and remove or weakens the stigma. Typically, leprosy is associated with being highly contagious and has disfigurement properties. Once the diagnosis is made a person suffering from leprosy become social pariahs. This is another reason why World Leprosy Day was established.

This International Day is an opportunity to celebrate people who have experienced leprosy, raise awareness of the disease, and call for an end to leprosy-related stigma and discrimination.

The “United for Dignity” campaign calls for unity in honoring the dignity of people who have experienced leprosy. The campaign honors the lived experiences of individuals who have experienced leprosy by:

  • Sharing their empowering stories and
  • Advocating for mental wellbeing and the right to a dignified life free from disease-related stigma.
