4 Common Misconceptions About E-Learning in Nigeria
When we think of school, we envision a traditional classroom setting complete with a whiteboard, desks, pencils, and notebooks. That’s how a classroom has looked for decades, and it’s hard to picture education in any other way.
But with the increase in E-learning courses, you might be curious about your options. The convenience and flexibility of E-learning are appealing, but is that format effective?
Your concerns might stem from some of the common misconceptions about E-learning. If there’s any chance these misconceptions stand in the way of you; and your dream career, it’s time to bring them to the light.
Getting an education online has a lot of benefits associated with it. Whether you are planning to complete high school online or a college education online; you are sure to experience many advantages that traditional students will miss out on. However, even with all the benefits and perks of E-learning; there are several misconceptions about E-learning that make some people hesitant or skeptical to even consider it.
Let’s take a look at four (4) common misconceptions about E-learning and explore the actual truth behind the misconception.
E-Learning is Easier Than Traditional Schooling
This is a misconception that needs to be handled promptly; so that students don’t enroll in it with misguided ideas about what the experience will be like. Many traditional students think that online learning classes are easier, shorter, and less involved than regular classes; but that simply isn’t the case. E-learning covers the same information as traditional classes, and they have similar expectations and standards for all students.
No Peer Interaction with E-Learning
Most people think of E-learning as completed isolated time sitting in front of a computer with absolutely zero human interaction. However, E-learning environments are very stringent about the requirements they set on students for peer interaction. Not only do online students post discussions, respond to others’ comments and questions in writing; and have real-time discussions with peers during class time; but they also take part in group work and collaborative activities quite often.
No Timeline for Completion of Courses
E-learning students can indeed make their schedules and work at their own pace. However, E-learning courses do have deadlines, just like any school does; and there is a time limit for the completion of courses.
You Have to Teach Yourself the Material
Just because you are not physically sitting in front of your instructors, doesn’t mean they won’t be there to guide you along the way. E-leaning instructors are responsible for engaging their students and teaching them the subject matter, just as they would in a traditional classroom.
