What I want for Christmas is….
Christmas is one of the major Christian holidays. It commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. To many, Christmas is also a cultural celebration with non-religious traditions, like Santa Claus, sending cards and giving gifts. Whether they’re religious or non-religious, many Christmas traditions are different from region to region, or even family to family. But there are those that remain acultural.
What do you want for Christmas?
Friends and Family
The Coronavirus pandemic that plagued the world still holds the world ransom this moment. It has been a trying time particularly, in climes where the pandemic ravages. However, countries that are not facing direct devastation due to pandemic faces economic difficulties.
The pandemic and its effects have caused a restriction in the ways we love to celebrate Christmas. Often, people live far away from their relatives, so it might not be possible to be with their families this Christmas due to the pandemic.
Gifts
Many people celebrate Christmas by giving gifts to their friends and family. Gifts is meant to be a symbol of love and kindness and remembrance of the birth of Jesus. Exchanging gift during Christmas reminds us of those presented to baby Jesus by the Wise Men.
I understand the need for a gift. We want to show and feel loved. We want to feel that ‘Christmas glow’ associated with receiving the perfect gift from the ones we love. However, there’s more joy in giving than receiving. Studies have shown that giving often makes people feel happy.
Parties
Christmas parties are fun times we spend dancing and enjoying with friends and families. Partying is one Christmas tradition that will be missed this year due to the COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings.
What will you want for Christmas?
This year (2020) has been a tough and challenging year for many, if not all of us. My prayer is that 2021 comes with laughter, abundance, blessings of health and love.
