The Life of a Job Seeker: Episode 11
EPISODE 11: The Escape
The Surgeon responded, “it went very well”. Few minutes later, Kobi and Joewie were allowed to see Nadia and the infant daughter.
It was 4am in the morning. Since Femi wasn’t returning, they assumed he must have gone home to sleep, unknown to them that he was struggling home in excruciating pain after managing to escape the cops at the crime scene.
At 6am, Kobi beseeched Joewie to go the house, bring some items for Nadia, and also notify Femi of the news. However, when Joewie got to the residence, he was surprised to find distressed Femi bleeding and packing his belongings.
“What happened to you?”, Joewie asked in astonishment. In a quavering voice, Femi responded; “Sorry, I can’t talk now as I am in danger. I think the police are after me, and so I need to leave now. I will talk to you later”. Before Joewie could even ask him for more information, he vanished and Joewie couldn’t catch up with him.
Dazzled, Joewie picked the items he needed for Nadia and returned to the hospital. He narrated his encounter with Femi to Kobi and Nadia and they all couldn’t comprehend; not until they heard the shocking news of a bank robbery on the radio, which stated that 6 thieves smuggled into a bank the previous night, 5 were apprehended by police, and 1 named Femi was on the run.
The Invite.
Kobi was still wondering how to foot the balance payment for the hospital bill when he saw a job advert with little details online. All that was stated was “If you need a job, send your CV to this email………” He applied without hesitation, and within 30 minutes, he received an invitation.
He said to Nadia, if this works out well, I will plead for salary advance and cover the bill. However, when Kobi got to the address the following day, he couldn’t believe his eyes. What he expected to be a job interview turned out to be a diabolic session beneath a tent organized by an occultic fellow for a large number of unemployed persons looking for work. Kobi noticed people spending money to acquire a mystery oil for a job breakthrough.
What the hell is this, he gasped. Someone tapped him from behind and told him, if you know what is good for you, leave here right now. That man is devilish…Without waiting to hear more details, Kobi left the scene immediately in anguish.
Lesson 6: Always research and validate the legitimacy of every job before applying or attending an interview
On his way home, Kobi called Kwasi to seek financial assistant for him but he didn’t respond, so he dropped him a message. Within few minutes, Kwasi responded; “when I saw your call, I just knew you wanted to beg for money. You should understand that I don’t have a job and I am relying on my parent for money. Anyway, I will send you N250,000 now which is more than the amount you seek and I hope you don’t call me to beg for money again”.
Kobi felt humiliated by the response he got from his friend. Nonetheless, he was grateful. He paid the hospital bill, and since he had some money left, he also paid for paternity test and was told to return another day for the result.
While they awaited the test result at home, Nadia began to think to herself; what if Femi, the fugitive turns out to be the father of my child and Kobi abandons me with the baby. What will I tell my parent? Soon, she started nursing the idea of fleeing.
The Test Result
Later, they received the notification that the paternity test result was out, so Kobi went to get it. In the end, it turned out that the child was not Kobi’s. The joy Kobi felt at that time was tremendous. He hurried home to inform Nadia of the result but she was nowhere to be found. Without waiting to hear the news, Nadia had run away leaving the baby and a note behind for Kobi.
“Don’t bother looking for me. I have left already. Knowing who the child’s father is between you and Femi would not do me any good as neither of you can take good care of me nor the child. More so, I am not ready to mother a child, so I left her behind. I hope our paths never cross again in life”
If you were in Kobi’s shoes, what would you do?
