What is Man Without Hope?

There is no direction without hope, hence, without hope we are lost. The hope of eternal life that most religions preach brings about virtues; these virtues guide us towards righteousness which gives us hope of eternal life.
You see? Without hope, life will be like a jungle and survival of the fittest will be the order of the day. It is my opinion that without hope, there will be no need for morals and ethics.
Now, what is man without hope?
“Man can live about forty days without food, about three days without water, about eight minutes without air…but only for one second without hope.”

There is no faith without hope. For it is hope that gives faith the substance to which we believe in the evidence of things yet to be received.
Without hope, you live a life without substance; and without hope, life is a chance.
The loose translation of Que sera, sera ‘whatever will be, will be‘. Will mean that there will be no need to hope; however, it is our natural instinct of curiosity that makes us ask the question will I be pretty? Will I be rich? Although the future’s not ours to see, hope is what brings us closer to the reality that our future can bring and without it, the need to see the future, the need to persevere becomes irrelevant.
It is hope that tells you there is light in the end of the tunnel even when the darkness seems impossible and unrelenting.
Hope reminds us that we are better tomorrow than today; It is this hope that strengthens our resolve to plan, work and implement ideas for a better tomorrow.
A story is told of a young man (Nnamdi) who applied for the position of an Office Assistant in a renowned organisation. He was interviewed and boy! The interviewer was impressed. You are hired, the interviewer yelled. The interviewer said to Nnamdi ‘give me your email address and I will send you your contract document and other employment documents including your resumption date’. Nnamdi replied ‘I don’t have an email.
‘I am sorry’ said the interviewer. ‘If you don’t have an email, you cannot have the job’.
Nnamdi left feeling hopeless. His hope was to get the job. He did not know what to do with the last ₦2,585 in his pocket. How will this sustain me? He asked. Feeling pity for himself, he left defeated.
He later decided to find a way to become actively engaged. Nnamdi purchased tomatoes with the money he had, then distributed door to door; he noticed that he was able to double his initial capital and so decided to continue the process because he realized he could survive that way. Shortly after he was able to afford a makeshift shop while still delivering to his customers. Some years later, he was able to run his own company and later had different distribution chains.
As part of his company building process, he decided to insure his company; so, he called an insurance broker; the insurance broker asked Nnamdi for his email; Nnamdi replied ‘I don’t have an email’. Shocked, the insurance broker replied, ‘you don’t have an email and you have been able to build this empire? Do you imagine the position you could have if you had an email?’ Nnamdi paused for a while and replied ‘YES! An office Assistant’
Don’t be discouraged when you hit the brick wall. Hold on to the hope that you have a purpose to fulfil.
