What is Social Stress?
Social stress is stress that results from relationships with others and a person’s social environment. When people experience too much social stress; they might feel symptoms such as headaches, rapid heart rate, dizziness, a tight feeling in the lungs, depression, and severe anxiety. For many, it’s a stress that seems to never be relieved; and the symptoms just seem to become a part of life.
What Causes It?
Most professionals believe social stress is due to the huge amount of social environments that we place ourselves . Not only are we more social than ever; but we do it in all the wrong ways, and we have very little control over the situation, which leads to even more stress. At one time, we were social only when we purposely got out and about. Otherwise, our social settings were generally calm and familiar.
In today’s world, we are constantly throwing ourselves into social settings that are chaotic and unknown. The constant changing of statuses, critical comments, nonstop comparisons, and gloom and doom media reports are wreaking havoc on our emotional and mental well-being.
