What is Stopping You?
Many are the challenges of man
The challenges like chains bind his hand
His limitations surround him
And glaringly they lie within
Showing their ugly heads like tadpoles seeking air
To him who bears this, life isn’t fair
His eyes agape, yet blind to a green view
Cos the eyes of his mind is blinded from the restriction within
Looking out, the poor souls asks
Are we not all born great?
Man, he answered, you were created great, but alas you taste the dust and are restricted by the enemy
What then is my enemy?
The enemy is thyself,
Without which, man is a great asset to himself;
He achieves whatever he sets his mind’s eye on;
Hence, I must see in my mind, achieve in my spirit, then bring to life the life I desire.
No one should be limited by his challenges but be challenged by his limitations.
There are numerous examples, living and dead that have defined what it means to make the impossible possible, hence it is no longer a myth and wouldn’t be categorized as Inspire to aspire or aspire to inspire.
As the faces of men are different so are the challenges they face. But rather than argue who has seen it worst, we must understand that our challenges are different so are our strengths; no one person has the same strength.
The challenges you face need your cooperation to bring you down. Like Ubong King will say, Poverty is not outside, it is inside and until you get angry at your present situation, you will not stand up.

Stephen Hawking
Hawking, arguably the world’s most famous and influential scientist, altered people’s perceptions of the universe. Stephen Hawking, on the other hand, not only altered people’s perceptions of science, but he also altered their perceptions of disability. Many of his greatest intellectual achievements were made while his body was failing after he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in his twenties.
These and many others have and are braving the odds. So, what is stopping you?
Our major challenges are hindrances, Steven Pressfield in his book ‘Do the Work’ referred to as our enemies. According to Pressfield the forces that militate against our progress are;
- Resistance: this could be fear, self-doubt, procrastination, addiction, distraction, timidity, ego and narcissism, self-loathing, perfectionism.
“Pain is Pain. Broken is Broken. FEAR is the Biggest Disability of all. And will PARALYZE you More Than Being in a Wheelchair.”
― Nick Vujicic
- Rational thoughts: The capacity for rational thought is a unique and extraordinary human endowment. However, when we employ rational thoughts from our ego, it is capable of limiting our creativity.
“Have you ever felt trapped in circumstances, then discovered that the only trap was your own lack of vision, lack of courage, or failure to see that you had better options?”
― Nick Vujicic
- Friends and Family: the problem with friends and family is that they know us as we are. They are invested in maintaining us as we are. And the last thing we want is to remain as we are.
Remember, our enemy is not lack of preparation; it’s not the difficulty of the project or the state of the marketplace or the emptiness of our bank account.
The enemy is our chattering brain, which, if we give it so much as a nanosecond, will start producing excuses, alibis, transparent self-justifications, and a million reasons why we can’t/shouldn’t/won’t do what we know we need to do.
Steven Pressfield

no one person has the same strength. So rather than giving up, it better you keep up hope.
