A world for Southpaws is not an easy world to create, we are currently living in a world where 90% of the population are right-handed. Left-handed or lefties embodies a creative and imaginative mind. They are also better at visualization and rhythm, the brains and bodies of left-handed people are different from righties.

How do you become a Southpaw?

The causes for the Southpaws are not generally known. Researchers believe that it is not just genetics that is responsible for Lefties or Left-handed. Studies have shown that women who are depressed or stressed during pregnancy are more likely to give birth to left-handed babies.

Societies generally associate the Left side with something bad and the Right side with good. There are world leaders who have well known for being Southpaw. Shell donates N288m subsea training facilities to UNIPORT

Donation of Training Facilities

Shell Nigeria Exploration Company Limited has announced that it had donated subsea training facilities. The donation is worth over $700,000, about N287.88m. This donation is to the University of Port-Harcourt in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The Managing Director, SNEPCo, Mrs Elohor Aiboni, said at the handover ceremony that she hoped the university would aid the Nigerian oil and gas industry to surpass its local content aspiration through human and capacity development initiatives funded by the company and NNPC.

Represented by SNEPCo’s social investment manager, Dr Gloria Udoh, Aiboni said, “This investment anchored on the maintenance of subsea infrastructure on Nigeria’s pioneer deep offshore field. Bonga, is expected to develop and upskill the cognitive and technical abilities of students who pass through the Offshore Technology Institute for the ultimate benefit of our industry and of our country.”

The Tech Savvy equipment

The new laboratory and software packages, would enable the Offshore Technology Institute to deliver effective training in engineering design; construction and installation of offshore and subsea structures; computer simulations; civil and construction tests; 3D printing/engravement capability; measurement/metering technology and robotics; alternative energy technologies; and data acquisition learning system.

The vice-chancellor, UNIPORT, Prof. Georgewill Onwunari, commended NNPC, SNEPCo and its co-venture partners for their goodwill to the university and canvassed more areas of collaboration between the university and its industry partners.

Skill Acquisition For Corp Members

For Corps members participating in the mandatory one year service of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC).
Skills acquisition training has been designed to arouse their interest to enlist for further training after the orientation period. The training is for those who are desirous of paid employment, a CV bank and job portal has been designed.

The development was in response to the needs of the corps members. Who despite the efforts to make them self-employed through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme still want a paid employment.

The State Coordinator Speech to the Youth Members

The disclosure was made by the Gombe State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Ada Imoni. During the 2021 Batch B Stream II SAED Closing Ceremony/ Exhibition held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Amada in Akko LGA.

She maintained that the portal is a platform for corps members. Corps members about to exit the scheme to upload their handwritten and video . Also, Curriculum Vitae for easy access by prospective employers.

While encouraging Corps members to continue with their chosen skills at their various places of primary assignments. Ada Imoni said that the hands-on training they got on camp was not conclusive. But rather meant to arouse their interest to enlist for further intensive training in any skill of their choice after the Orientation Camp.

About 900 Corps members participated in the Skills Acquisition hands-on training and prepared to embark on the service year as entrepreneurs.

At the end of the Inter-platoon competition. The result was declared as Gele and make -up was won by platoon 6. Barbing was won by Platoon 3 and Fashion design by platoon 7. The Overall best was won by platoon 6.

The role of women in the workplace is essential for the economic development of the country. The value that women have in the workforce is truly immeasurable. Women bring skills and knowledge needed in the workforce. When women are empowered it is a benefit to all. Although in the 21st Century, there is gender bias and discrimination in the workplace. Women have to work twice as hard as their male counterpart to gain the respectful recognition. Organizations must recognize the role of women in a workplace, increase their talent pool to improve their performance.

Women’s Economic Participation

Recent studies have shown that women are underpaid and underrepresented in a workplace. The continuous closing up of the labor force, participation rate and considerably improvement in women’s educational and professional attainment. This is yet to reflect into noteworthy improvement with respect to increased decision-making power for women and the government creating an enabling work friendly environment for women.

There are numerous ceilings placed on Women, such as policies, Legal Cultural, Environmental and Religious ceilings. As a result of this Ceilings, Women are exposed to high level of poverty and economic hardship. These ceilings stands as an obstacle for Women empowerment.

On your marks to the Graduate Employability Skill (GES)

The Graduate Employability Skills training (GES) is a Terraskills initiative poised to solve the crippling unemployment crisis in Nigeria. GES program is a combination of 1-month intensive Employability Skills Training and 1-month internship with a reputable organization. The registration for GES program ended on the 11th of September, 2021.

Get Set for the Screening Exercise

After the closing of the registration, all applications will be sieved through by a team of experts to secure the right candidate. Thereafter, all applicants will undergo a virtual and oral interview to test their cognitive abilities. This will be followed by an inception workshop to have a one-on-one meeting with successful applicants. This is to certify that all successful applicants will be able to attend the GES program at the stipulated date. Thereafter, the list of successful candidates will be published on all Terraskills platforms.

GO for Training and Internship

There will be a Grand Opening Ceremony and Dinner night to welcome successful applicants. The ceremony will be for stakeholders to network and interacts. The dinner night will also act as the opening ceremony for the Training. The 1- month in house training will kick start on the 31st of January 2022 . Thereafter, all trainees will undergo an internship program in a reputable organization for 1 month. This is to gain work experience and to exhibit lessons learnt from the 1-month inhouse training. The program will draw the curtains with a convocation and award ceremony.
